5 Movie Endings with no clear resolution

Watch a bad movie ending? Question the reason a screenwriter ruins the movie ending with no resolution? Movie endings make a good film a great watch. We enjoy movie endings that resolve the conflict. However, movie endings with no clear resolution undermine the premise.

A good movie ends with a resolution. We see the character(s) rise or sink. There are 5 movie endings that don't make any sense. We have no clue what to expect. Will the protagonist solve their inner demons? Can the protagonist move past their struggles to reach greatness?

Movie endings are effective if they answer the main question established in the setup. Good movie endings resolve the inciting incident established in the setup. Will the murder be solved? Does the protagonist succeed?

5 movie endings with no clear resolution: (may contain spoilers)
  1. The Darkest Hour (Worst movie ending ever. Will the invisible invaders be defeated? What happens?)
  2. Horsemen (What happens to Alex? The serial killer website?)
  3. No Country for Old Men (What happens to the wife? Does the assassin show mercy?)
  4. The Devil Inside (Is Maria Rossi still suffering from multiple demonic possession?)
  5. Unfaithful (Does Richard Gere decide to turn himself in to the police? What happens?)
The 5 movie endings above have no clear resolution. We watch the movies to find answers. The high concept movies convey the plot in their movie titles. The movie endings are disastrous. Thus, moviegoers leave the movie theater confused, frustrated and disappointed.

Know of any movie endings with no clear resolution? Want to share these movies? List the movies in the comment section below. Thanks.
