Dark Skies film ending

Dark Skies is a new alien movie. We watch the progression of the Barrett family from struggling to pay their bills to experiencing an unexplained Alien encounter. In the film ending, Dark Skies deals out a M. Night Shyamalan twist ending.

***Dark Skies Spoiler***

If you haven't watched Dark Skies yet, avoid reading the Dark Skies spoiler below this sentence. 

Daniel and Lacy prepare their home to fend off the mysterious beings. They have no idea who and what will show up, but they are prepared to protect their family against the dangerous entities referred to as "The Grey". 

The Grey are Aliens who have visited Earth long ago. Their main purpose is to abduct the first person person they encounter. Daniel boards up the interior windows. 

The Barrett sit at the dining table. They bond on the very night The Grey are expected to make full contact. The new German Shepherd dog sits patiently, ready to warn Daniel and his family of any unexplained sounds. 

Outside firework sounds provide enjoyment. Daniel asks his family whether they want to watch the fireworks on television. On the television set, the New York City fireworks light up the Statue of Liberty. 

All of a sudden, an electrical disturbance clouds the television. The dog begins to bark, alerting the Barrett family the visitors are nearby. 

We see a lot of activity. The Alien begins mean business. They know exact what they need. The screws rotate outward, releasing the firm and sturdy grip to the boards securing the home. 

Jesse and Sam hide upstairs to find cover from the invisible entities. Daniel confronts the Aliens in the dining room. He begins shooting a shotgun at the bright lights toward the wood planks, the same force which is responsible for removing the bolted screws.

The Aliens enter the home. Jesse and Sam are frightened. Daniel breaks down the door to free his children. 

Jesse enters another home. His mind wonders in his past home. He chases after his brother Sam. In the kitchen, Jesse is shocked that his father shot his mother dead. His father thus puts the shotgun up to his head and fires a fatal shot. 

Jesse hears porn video sounds from a television. He finds his best friend and girlfriend sitting on the lower end of the bed. They ask him to join them. 

Jesse approaches his brother. He tries to alert Sam. Without a warning, Jesse reenters the real world. Daniel and Lacy call out to Jesse, who we see is the intended target. Three Alien beings surround Jesse., where they teleport him away.

Missing child news show Jesse's missing person case on a local newspaper. Daniel and Lacy are implicated because the authorities believe Jesse's parents are behind his missing case. 

The Alien expert cuts a newspaper clipping of Jesse. He posts the newspaper clipping on the wall, where we see hundreds of child abduction cases.

Three months later, Daniel mentions court cases concerning Jesse's whereabouts. The Barrett family obviously downsized to an apartment. Daniel is cleaned shaved and dressed in business attire.  

While reviewing old photos, Lacy discovers Jesse's old drawings with three Aliens surrounding him. The Dark Skies twist ending reveals a series of flashbacks of the Alien expert mentioning any past illnesses. As a result, Lacy revisits various connections to establish the Aliens made contact with Jesse in his early childhood years. 

Therefore, Daniel and Lacy overlooked who the Aliens intended to abduct. A walkie talkie begins to play different frequencies. Sam picks up the walkie talkie and talks into it. We hear Jesse's voice. He is stuck in a realm beyond the physical world. 

Dark Skies ends with Jesse's voice revealing fear of the Aliens.
